Our Mission

Muslims in Real Estate (MIRE) is dedicated to fostering inclusivity, opportunity, and professional advancement within the real estate industry for built environment specialists of varying experiences. Recognising the disproportionate barriers faced by Muslims even in cases of equal educational attainment, we strive to dismantle systemic prejudices and create pathways to success. Through CPD sessions, networking events, contributions to panel discussions and dialogues, guidance & support volunteers, we aim to empower individuals to navigate and excel in their respective careers.

MIRE aims to impact the Muslim community by providing support to those lacking access to essential resources. Compelled to catalyze change and increase involvement in the industry, we seek to enhance understanding and engagement with the roles of surveyors and property professionals among younger audiences and those interested in the industry through education and outreach initiatives. Ultimately, MIRE envisions a real estate landscape that is more diverse, informed, and inclusive, driving positive change and benefiting society as a whole.

Why MIRE?

Setting up an organisation to assist Muslims in entering the real estate industry is imperative due to profound employment disparities. British Muslims face significant obstacles accessing managerial and professional roles, with starkly low employment rates and earnings, particularly among women.

Despite adjusting for factors like qualifications, systemic barriers persist, including discrimination in recruitment and cultural constraints.  Discrimination, both direct and indirect, appears to be a significant driver of these penalties.

Negative stereotyping of Islam and Muslims in the media, alongside discriminatory practices in recruitment, contribute to the perpetuation of these disparities. Furthermore, cultural and attitudinal differences, including traditional gender roles and religious prohibitions, constrain employment choices for Muslims.

Establishing an organisation dedicated to supporting Muslims in the real estate industry is crucial. We aim to provide targeted assistance, including mentorship, networking opportunities, and advocacy against discriminatory practices. By addressing systemic barriers and providing tailored support, this initiative can contribute to fostering greater inclusivity and representation of Muslims in professional spheres.
